Drawing Process

For my drawing process I mainly use my Ipad pro and the 2nd Gen Apple Pencil but I also use this lovely XP-PEN artist 15.6" Pro with my pc.

Ever since finding digital art and exploring the many programs I found my favorites consist of Paint tool sai, clip studio paint and procreate (this is sadly only available on apple products). I also recommend Krita, which is an amazing free pc program that reminds me of Adobe, with this being free allows artists to get a good introduction into digital medium.

  • PaintToolSai will probably always be one of my favorite programs. With its beautiful painterly feel and adjustable features I find this program offers a lot of bang for your buck (along with a free trial). I also run across the most available brushes and tutorials on this program and easy to use feature.
  • Clip Studio Paint is my main program since I can use on both PC and my Ipad. Sadly I have found to use the Ipad version it requires a monthly subscription but I believe this is to use the Cloud feature. Which to me is amazing when being able to draw, doodle, and complete artwork on the go then being able to transfer to my pc for printing, editing, etc. This program also comes with so many free available brushes and also some that don't cost too much. Need a leaf brush? Just go to the clip studio assets and find the newest or most used brushes (along with free options offered) theres also a 'liking' feature that allows artists to leave feedback or ask questions. I found for the overall price and functionality between my PC and Ipad, this is the app for me. While I'm still learning so much and exploring the 3D model options (amazing for anatomy studies or those really odd perspective poses that can hold up a whole idea haha) I love this program so much.
  • For one of my favorite sketching apps I highly recommend Procreate Sadly this is at the bottom of my list mainly because its only available through apple. But even with this huge block for those who don't have an Ipad, I recommend this app to those who are able to get it. For a really affordable one time price of $10 this app has a lot of amazing features and abilities that compete with PaintToolSai for me, especially if I'm on the road. With brushes available online and easy to edit yourself its amazing what you can create. It also has a lot of pencil brush options and has a paintbush feel with some of their brushes. While I'm still learning how I enjoy coloring my art in this app, my favorite feature is the auto record. On any piece of artwork you start the app automatically records your process, which for forgetful me is an amazing feature for timelapse videos I love sharing with others. Also Procreate has the ability to quickly make straight lines and perfect circles with a hold of your apple pencil. This makes procreate my main sketching or idea dump app.

    For traditional!

For my more traditional work I range from Pencil and Pens to watercolor and marker. With these mediums this is really how I grew up learning art. Not having the access that I do now to digital programs and tools almost all of my earlier work is made with "traditional" mediums.

    • With sketching I found I enjoyed using Bic Pens on some of my favorite, printer paper! With printer paper I could doodle in classes or keep in my textbooks and then save my favorites to put into sleeve protectors or tape with construction tape into a sketchbook to keep them all in the same place while adding additional notes.

    • Watercolor is definitely my traditional medium of choice for coloring, especially landscapes or animal portraits. How I always used them was a mix between painting like they were watercolor but then also treating them like acrylic. I have dabbled into Gouache paints and while I do enjoy the feel of this medium the fluidity of watercolors is unmatched for me. Some of my favorite tools for this medium are Winsor and Newton Cotman watercolor set, Canson watercolor paper, and this adorable water container for on the go which is called a Dipper cup which is leak proof way to have water anywhere you decide to paint. Brushes arent really something I specify with since I usually use the one offered in the watercolor set.

    • Color pencil is also another one of my coloring mediums that I enjoyed and I recommend are Prismacolor Premier Color Pencils and then I recommend this Oil mixture to help make the colors more vivid and mixed. This is a new technique I found from an online tutorial that allows you to get ride of the white left by the texture of some papers

If you have any questions regarding any of these tools, programs or mediums please don't hesitate to ask (*^▽^*) If I don't know the answer I'm more than willing to help find one with you.
